See what CCU has to offer over the coming months, and pick a date to schedule a visit.  If your group is unable to attend a regularly scheduled weekend event, CCU may customize programs for some weekdays as an alternate choice.  Three to four weeks advance notice is required, however.

Connecting Communities to UCLA- January 26th

“CCU Launch”

CCU is a multi-faceted program which connects UCLA’s campus to the greater Los Angeles community. The mission of CCU is to enhance the relationship between UCLA, community groups, faith-based organizations, and schools located in underserved communities. The program offers community-engaging events such as campus tours, admission workshops, college majors and campus life exploration, career workshops, and other such topics of interest.

Connecting Communities to UCLA- February 2nd

 
“Just the Girls”
 
Just the Girls day will engage issues that specifically affect females in education. The program will assist them in finding innovative methods to shape their environments and help them tap into the innate and natural leadership skills of women.

Bruin Speaker Series - February 9th
 
“Endless Possibilities in Medicine & Science
 
The Bruin Speakers Series is a career focused program that targets scholars living in the city of Los Angeles. The day will focus on the many career possibilities and impact of underrepresented populations in medicine and science.  The program will include a motivational speaker as well as two diversified career panels. The panel includes representatives from Medicine, Nursing, Medical School, Dentistry, Surgeons, and Research. This event is invitation only.

“Gospel Explosion”
 
Gospel explosion will target church youth groups and faith based organizations focus on the importance of furthering knowledge, working hard and overcoming obstacles and issues that specifically affect religious students in education.

Bruin Speaker Series – March 1st
 
“Letter of the Lawand “LA’s Best”
 
Bruin Speakers Series is a career focused program that targets scholars living in the city of Los Angeles. LA’s Best is a nationally recognized after school education, enrichment and recreation program serving more than 26,000 children with the greatest needs and fewest resources throughout the City of Los Angeles. Duel programs will run on this day. The first program will focus on the many career possibilities and impacts of underrepresented populations in the legal field and diversified uses of a Juris Doctorate degree. The LA’s Best program will target program participants and provide career, college and campus life exploration. This day is by invitation only.

“Boys and Girls Club”
 
Students and their parents will come for a day of fun activities and discussions. The program will pinpoint the ideal characteristics of a young scholar and explain how college can be a valuable tool for success in their future. The day will address such as family, financial aid, immigration status and college, scholarships, etc.

Career Day will demonstrate how education is connected to a successful future. Youth will learn about a broad range of careers, learn how education is connected to those careers, connect what he or she is learning in school to real-world situations, and begin viewing himself or herself in an occupation.

Females in Math and Science Day will target Middle School and High School student who have demonstrated talent in math and science. The day will include exciting math and science demonstrations and hands-on activities. Invitations will be sent to organization that deals with girl’s math and science programs. The event will take place on March 29 for women’s history month.

“Business & the World of Money”
 
Bruin Speakers Series is a career focused program that targets scholars living in the city of Los Angeles. A panel of local Entrepreneurs, Business Managers, and Financial Analysts will speak about the world of business and money and how it relates to underrepresented populations. Co-programmed with Anderson School of Business and Black Business association, Riordan Fellows Program, and business owners from Liemert Part will be invited.

Bruin Speakers Series is a career focused program that targets scholars living in the city of Los Angeles. This day will focus on the nontraditional roles and careers of underrepresented populations in Sports. A panel of sports agents, coaches, sports managers and other careers will be formulated to address this non-traditional role and its challenges.

The purpose of this weekend would be to invite scholar athletes from across the city to engage with UCLA and meet and talk with current and former Athletes. The day will motivate current athletes to push themselves in their education the same way they push themselves to succeed on the field.

“Fostering Education” Foster Parents Weekend
 
The purpose of this day is to change the attitudes of foster youth by empowering and educating foster parents about the value of education. The day will assist foster Parents gain information and strategies that improve the education of foster youth.

“Parents Weekend”
 
This day will be geared towards parents and how they can plan, prepare and pay for their children to go to college. Topics will include financial aid, planning, supporting children, college financial aid myths, getting ready for the FASFA, and how to apply for financial aid. Parent groups and PTA’s from around the city will be invited.

“Community College Weekend”
 
Every spring potential transfer students from California Community Colleges will come to campus for a transfer day. The day will help students formulate transfer plans, and meet face-to-face with admissions officers to determine transfer eligibility.
